Probes of the quark-gluon plasma and plasma instabilities

چکیده

Penetrating probes in heavy-ion collisions, like jets and photons, are sensitive to the transport coefficients of produced quark-gluon plasma, such as shear bulk viscosity. Quantifying this sensitivity requires a detailed understanding photon emission jet-medium interaction nonequilibrium plasma during hydrodynamic stages collisions. Up now, an has been hindered by instabilities. These instabilities arise out equilibrium lead spurious divergences when evaluating rate hard with plasma. In paper, we show that taking into account time evolution unstable cures these divergences. Specifically, calculate gluon two-point correlators setup small initial momentum anisotropy occupation density at first grows exponentially. Based on calculation, argue for phenomenological prescription where instability poles subtracted. Finally, Abelian case fields do not affect medium-induced our order approximation.

Quark-gluon Plasma Thermalization and Plasma Instabilities

Here is a basic question: What is the (local) thermalization time for quarkgluon plasmas (QGPs) in heavy ion collisions? That’s a difficult question, so let’s ask a simpler one: What is it for arbitrarily high energy collisions, where the running coupling constant is small, αs ≪ 1? Even that turns out to be complicated, so let me focus on an even simpler version, first posed by Baier, Mueller, ...

Hard QCD Probes to Quark-Gluon Plasma

Completely unexplored regimes of QCD, dominated by high-density/temperature effects, are available in heavy ion experiments at collider energies. The successful RHIC program shows how relevant the high transverse momentum part of the spectrum is for the characterization of the properties of the created medium. It points, as well, to interesting properties of the nuclear wave function at small f...

Heavy-Quark Probes of the Quark-Gluon Plasma at RHIC

Thermalization and collective flow of charm (c) and bottom (b) quarks in ultra-relativistic heavyion collisions are evaluated based on elastic parton rescattering in an expanding quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We show that resonant interactions in a strongly interacting QGP (sQGP), as well as parton coalescence, can play an essential role in the interpretation of recent data from the Relativistic He...

Quark-Gluon Plasma Signatures

Aspects of quark-gluon plasma signatures that can be measured by CMS are discussed. First the initial conditions of the system from minijet production are introduced, including shadowing effects. Color screening of the Upsilon family is then presented, followed by energy loss effects on charm and bottom hadrons, high pT jets and global observables. ∗) This work was supported in part by the Dire...
